June 20 @ 14:00

You probably know that Dame Agnes Hunt co-founded the Orthopaedic Hospital and Derwen College – but how much do you know about her?

Her photograph hangs in the corridors at Gobowen, but she was uncomfortable in front of a camera and appears very stern. In real life, she was brave and determined, overcoming prejudice and the really significant challenges caused by her own disabilities. But she was also kind, generous, and very, very funny.

Her autobiography, ‘This Is My Life’, is a joy to read.

‘Aggie’ is a one-woman show based on that autobiography. It tells the story of her childhood, her lifelong battle with her own pain and disability, her adventures with her family in Australia, her journey into nursing, and the founding of the world-famous orthopaedic hospital. It also explores her relationships with her mother, and with her soul-mate, Emily Goodford. Aggie’s life is narrated in her own inimitable voice and is full of humour and vitality, an uplifting story of one woman’s determination not to be defined by what she couldn’t do.

Aggie’s story is brought to life by Alison Utting, an experienced local writer, actor and director.

Two shows 2pm & 6pm

Duration: 60mins
