A United Kingdom (12A)

A United Kingdom (12A)

David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike star in the powerful new drama from British director Amma Asante (Belle, A Way of Life), based on an extraordinary true story.

In 1947, King of Bechuanaland (modern Botswana) Seretse Khama (Oyelowo) falls in love with British office worker Ruth Williams (Pike). Their controversial union generates fierce opposition from the British and South African governments as well as their families – but Seretse and Ruth defy family, apartheid and Empire to stay together. Exploring the intersect between a particular story and its universal affect, A United Kingdom charts a complex and painful chapter in Britain's social history.
