The Edge Chamber Choir - a local auditioned choir making a name for itself in the Ludlow area, is putting on its autumn concert at St Laurence’s Church, Ludlow on Saturday October 14th.
The choir loves to explore modern music for small choirs and also showcase local instrumentalists. The first half of this concert is no exception and includes music for the unusual combination of choir and viola, — including Svyati by John Taverner, Beach by Bob Chilcott and Ah, Holy Jesus by John Ferguson. Lydia Handy, viola, has a postgraduate diploma from the Birmingham Conservatoire and is winner of a number of prizes including the Sylvia Cleaver Prize for Chamber Music.
After the interval, Edge will perform Latvian composer Uğis Praulinš's Missa Rigensis, written in honour of his native city of Riga. A background of formal composition studies, combined with experience in rock bands, film and theatre music, and pioneering work with folk music, all feed in to this imaginative setting of the mass.
