A Matter of Life and Death (U)

Dir: Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger | UK | 1946 | 104 mins

A British Air Force pilot (David Niven) miraculously survives bailing out of his aeroplane without a parachute on his way home to England from World War II. He finds and falls in love with an American radio operator (Kim Hunter) he contacted moments before his narrow escape from death. However, an angel is despatched to escort the pilot to heaven as his survival was a mistake made by the other world. Romantic and magical classic from Powell and Pressburger.
