Joanna MacGregor plays the Goldberg Variations (Arcadia 2018)

Part of Arcadia 2018 – JS Bach a Celebration – this concert has one of the world’s great pianists, Joanna MacGregor, playing that supreme work for keyboard, Bach’s Goldberg Variations.  A great opportunity to hear the fabulous new Steinway at St Laurence’s given the fullest workout.  Arcadia’s artistic directors Eleanor Alberga and Thomas Bowes are also featured.  Alberga’s piano solo ‘It’s Time’ is inspired by a famous poem by Pushkin, whilst ‘Oh Chaconne’ is a homage to Bach and his mighty Chaconne for solo violin and designed as a prelude to it. Bowes will play the Chaconne. The concert will open with a spiritual sung by Thorvald Blough.
