The Islands and the Whales (12A)

Dir: Mike Day | UK/Denmark | 2016 | 81 mins

In the Faroe Islands, where the land yields so little, the inhabitants have always relied on the harvest the seas have to offer. However, their tradition of whale and seabird hunting is under threat – not only due to the controversy surrounding the tradition but because of the grim effects of marine pollution on the whales. Having become toxic from the outside world, the contaminated whales that once secured their survival now threatens their children and they have to make a choice between health and tradition.
