Funny Cow (15)

Maxine Peake stars a working class Northern woman, aspiring to be a stand-up comedian. Following her journey to stardom in the 1970s and 80s, she draws upon her troubled childhood through to her turbulent adult relationships as material for her act. Performing against a backdrop of working-men’s clubs and in an all-male world, her work soon skyrockets her to the top. With a musical score by Richard Hawley and co-starring Steven Graham and Paddy Considine as well as writer of the film Tony Pitts as her violent husband Bob.
