The Ludlow Orchestra

Leader: Claire Tocknell
Conductor: Thomas Payne
Soloist: Daniel Browell

Liadov: Kikimora
Prokofiev: Piano Concerto No. 1 in D Flat
Shostakovich: Symphony no. 5 in D Minor

Thomas Payne conducts Ludlow Orchestra for the last time, after six memorable years together. The orchestra bids a fond farewell as Tom continues his work of ballet conductor with The Royal Ballet, on the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House.

The pianist Daniel Browell joins us to perform Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.1. Daniel’s varied performing career includes recitals in the UK, Europe and North America. He gave his BBC Proms debut in 2008 and now works regularly with the BBC Philharmonic. He is currently Associate Head of Keyboard at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. The orchestra is delighted at this opportunity to work with Daniel and to showcase St Laurence’s beautiful Steinway.

The concert opens with Liadov’s fascinating and mysterious tone poem Kikimora. In the second half we perform Shostakovich’s passionate and powerful Fifth Symphony: a real treat for both orchestra and audience.
