Felicity Jones plays the real-life US supreme court justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, in an inspiring drama detailing her personal struggle against injustice and prejudice.
In spite of graduating at the top of her class, Ruth is unable to find a position with a law firm because none of the firms she applies to want to hire a woman. She takes a job as a professor at Rutgers Law School, teaching "Sex Discrimination and the Law".
As she searches for the key case that will crack open the edifice of male privilege and sex discrimination, she teams up with her devoted husband Marty (Armie Hammer). Together they suceed in bringing a groundbreaking case before the U.S. Court of Appeals and overturn a century of gender discrimination.
Ginsburg’s story is undeniably fascinating, and the script, written by her nephew Daniel Stiepleman, focuses the film on the early cases of an historic career that lead to her nomination and confirmation as U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice.
"On the Basis of Sex is nowhere near as groundbreaking as its real-life subject, but her extraordinary life makes a solid case for itself as an inspirational, well-acted biopic." - Rotten Tomatoes
