Burway Open Gardens 2026

Sun 17 May
Many people walk, run or cycle along Burway Lane, but very few have ever seen what lies behind the houses: private rear gardens with views across the flood plain and towards the Ludlow skyline. On Sunday 17th May, eight homes on Burway Lane open their gardens from 12 noon until 4pm — each one unique, shaped by the individual tastes and histories of their owners over the years.

There's plenty to enjoy beyond the gardens themselves. Browse the Plant Sale and Garage Sale, visit local artist Jane Taylor's Gallery, and stop for homemade cakes, specialist coffee or a pizza cooked to order in the garden. A cricket match will be in full swing nearby, with the Clubhouse bar open to visitors.

The lane has history too —Burway means castle way, and in 1188 Giraldus Cambriensis passed here and noted "the noble castle of Ludlow." That view is still yours to enjoy today, along with the medieval ridge-and-furrow fields that remain as a working flood plain.

All proceeds support Ludlow Assembly Rooms. Numbers are limited.

Parking is available at the entrance to Burway Lane at Ludlow Cricket Club – SY8 1DT

Duration: 240 mins
