Nina & Co Vintage Film Night: Gone to Earth (1950) PG

Wed 15 Apr

During the first half of 2026, at the Ludlow Assembly Rooms, Nina & Co will once again present six classic films from around the world whose quality and content still inspire and speak to us today. Chosen primarily for the strength of their art – visual, musical and dramatic – the visual qualities are key, in costume. production design, cinematography and setting, from Britain, Europe, Australia and the Far East.

Filmed in nearby, around Much Wenlock, this movie is based on a novel by Mary Webb who lived all her life in Shropshire. The story is of Hazel Woodus, a wild and independent young woman whose passion for the

natural world sets her apart from the local community. Loved by a gentle minister while pursued by a passionate squire, Hazel is torn, and her struggle ends tragically as she desperately seeks sanctuary from the forces she feels closing around her.
