A marvellous and complex family drama from Joachim Trier, where a film-director reunites with his estranged daughter.

Nora (Renate Reinsve) is a successful and somewhat anxious stage actress. Her father, Gustav Borg (Stellan Skarsgård) is a once-renowned film director planning a comeback with a script based on their family, having been estranged from his daughters for many years after divorcing their mother, who has recently passed.

When Gustav offers Nora the lead role, Nora refused to take part, Gustav turns his attention to moulding a young American star (Elle Fanning) into his daughter’s role.

After the hugely successful Oslo Trilogy (Reprise; Oslo, August 31st; The Worst Person in the World), Sentimental Value is a testament to Joachim Trier’s distinctive humour about grief and the ability to create unexpected chemistry within tightly constructed scenes.

DIRECTOR: Joachim Trier

CAST: Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas
