In 1917, Lionel and David meet as students at the New England Conservatory of Music on the eve of America’s entry into World War I. Drawn together by music and curiosity, they reunite after the war and journey through rural Maine in the winter of 1920, recording the voices, stories, and folk songs of their countrymen. As they document a fading way of life, their partnership evolves into something deeper, shaped by grief, hope, and the fragile beauty of human connection.
