Geology Walk

Sun 23 Aug
Tue 25 Aug

A walking tour of the geology of Ludlow seen through the Town’s Building Stones

Ludlow is an internationally important geological location and this walk around the town will introduce the geology of Ludlow and

surrounding area through the stones used to build the town from Medieval times to the Present day.

It will include a visit to a Medieval quarry.

The walk will start at the toposcope in the Castle Street Car Park and visit a number of buildings across the town ending at Ludford, a significant geological site with a pub!

At each location we will explore the rock types used in the building, how and when the rocks were geologically formed, why they we used in the specific building and where the stone was sourced.

The walk will last approximately 2 hours and will be on roads and paths but please note Ludlow is hilly especially around the castle and small stretches can be strenuous and uneven.
