Ludlow Assembly Rooms is looking for a Casual Technician to join our team and support the delivery of a varied programme of live events, performances, screenings and community activities.

We are particularly looking for someone with strong sound knowledge and experience, who is also confident undertaking basic lighting duties and operating our cinema equipment. This is a varied, hands-on role that would suit a technically minded person who enjoys working across different types of events and helping create a great experience for audiences, artists and hirers.

About the role

As a Casual Technician, you will provide technical support for events taking place at Ludlow Assembly Rooms. Your main area of specialism will be sound, but you will also be expected to work across other technical areas as required.

Typical duties may include:

  • Setting up, operating and dismantling PA and sound equipment for live performances, talks, meetings and other events.
  • Carrying out sound checks and providing live sound operation where required.
  • Working with visiting artists, performers, companies and event organisers to understand and meet their technical requirements.
  • Undertaking basic lighting setup and operation, including patching, focusing and operating lighting equipment for straightforward events.
  • Operating our cinema projection system for film screenings and other presentations.
  • Supporting the technical setup and operation of events across the building.
  • Carrying out basic fault-finding and resolving technical issues where possible.
  • Ensuring equipment is used safely and appropriately, and reporting any maintenance or equipment issues.
  • Assisting with get-ins, get-outs, room changes and general event preparation.
  • Working as part of the wider Ludlow Assembly Rooms team to ensure events run smoothly and safely.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has practical experience of live sound and is confident operating audio equipment.
  • Has a good understanding of microphones, mixing desks, speakers, signal flow and basic audio troubleshooting.
  • Has some experience of lighting for live events, or is willing and able to develop their skills in this area.
  • Is comfortable learning and operating cinema projection equipment.
  • Is practical, reliable and able to work calmly under pressure.
  • Can communicate well with artists, performers, hirers, colleagues and members of the public.
  • Is able to work independently while also being a supportive member of a small team.
  • Has a good awareness of health and safety and safe working practices.
  • Is flexible about working evenings and weekends, as our programme takes place outside standard working hours.

You don’t need to be an expert in every area of technical production. Sound will be your primary specialism, and we are particularly interested in people who have a solid audio background and are comfortable working across the other technical requirements of a busy arts and community venue.
