Mendelssohn: Overture ‘Hebrides’
Weber: Clarinet Concerto No. 1
Beethoven: Symphony No 3 ‘Eroica’
In a programme full of atmosphere and early romanticism, The Ludlow Orchestra continues its survey of Beethoven’s symphonies with his epic, groundbreaking ‘Eroica’. This colossal work effectively shattered all previous notions of a symphony, and indeed all music, launching at a single stroke the musical “romantic” era of the 19th century. In addition, the orchestra celebrates Weber’s bicentenary year with his radiant and scintillating first clarinet concerto, performed by the brilliant James Maltby, and the concert opens with Mendelssohn’s great masterpiece and hugely popular ‘Hebrides’ Overture.
