500 Years | 100 Watches

April 11 @ 19:30

500 Years | 100 Watches

For centuries people have been captivated by watches—whether for their technical precision, their unique design, or their historic importance. Alex Barter and Daryn Schnipper’s new book 500 Years | 100 Watches focuses on the development of the watch through a carefully selected group of one hundred watches which, between them, reveal some of the most important horological developments over the last half millennium. For his talk, Alex will be discussing some of the most historical and beautiful watches from the book.

Alexander Barter served as Deputy Worldwide Head of Sotheby’s watch division. Since 2009 he has worked as an independent watch consultant, researching and writing the catalogues for many important watch collections. In 2019 he published his first book, The Watch: A Twentieth-Century Style History (Prestel).

NB: Seating for this event is unreserved – please take seats of your choice on entry
