September 12 @ 7:30 PM - December 9 @ 7:30 PM

Pelé's Poetry Series: "Amores" - Christian Roe and Pelé Cox

‘Amores’ Christian Roe and Pele Cox: a poetry recital across millennia.

‘Art lies by its own artifice.’ OVID

Doors open at 7 for 7.30pm. Tickets £15, includes complimentary drink.

In the first half we will hear poems from Ovid’s masterpiece, Amores, establishing him as the ultimate Latin lover. He conveys the intensity of desire with sensuous rhythm and mischievous structure.

In part two Pele Cox’s will read her controversial Mistress Account, a cycle of poems charting a doomed love affair from the perspective of the illicit lover. Concealed from the daily life of 21st Century London, events take a tragic turn, the climax is a ‘Cinderella story in reverse.’ First performed at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, Ledbury Poetry Festival and featured in the Sunday Times Magazine.

Christian Roe trained at the National Youth Theatre and LAMDA. His theatre credits include Roaring Trade (Soho), The Power of Yes (National Theatre), 66 Books (Bush), Monkey Bars (Traverse), Stand (Oxford Playhouse), The Velveteen Rabbit (Unicorn/Barcelona/New York/Seattle), Light/House (Laika/Munich), Public Enemy:Flint (Michigan). On TV his work includes Wallander, Walter’s War, White Heat, Criminal Justice (all BBC), Skins, Before We Die (C4), Delicious, Midwich Cuckoos (Sky), Professor T (ITV) and Moresnet (Caviar). He is delighted to be working again with Pele Cox, having previously collaborated with her on Vincent and Poetry, Degas and the Ballet (RA) and Lift me Up, I’m Dying (Keats-Shelley House, Rome).

Pele Cox is a poet and dramaturgist, working with poetry through the fine arts. Her next film, ‘Dreamboat’ has been commissioned to commemorate Shelley’s death. Her live events have been performed widely in the UK and Italy: The Courtauld Institute; The Royal Academy (where she was Poet in Residence); BAFTA; the Keats-Shelley House; John Murray; the British School in Rome; the Cheltenham Literature Festival; the Todi Festival; the Ledbury Poetry Festival; Bradford Literature Festival, and the British Embassy in Rome.
