Teme Valley Arts Society presents…

June 18 @ 2:00 PM

Steve Kershaw: The Minoans of Crete – the first Europeans

At the start of the 20th century Arthur Evans unearthed an entire civilisation on the island of Crete. Its impressive public buildings, advanced social structures and political institutions, centred on the vast complex which he dubbed the ‘Palace of Minos’, showed that European civilisation was as ancient and sophisticated as that of Egypt.

Dr. Steve Kershaw has had a special interest in the world of the Ancient Greeks and Romans ever since being introduced to Homer’s Iliad by an inspirational teacher at his primary school. He developed his interests in the Classics at Heath Grammar School in Halifax, before studying at Bristol University. Having achieved a degree in Classics, Steve stayed on to write his Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Richard Buxton, arguably the leading scholar on Greek myth in the world.

You can attend TVAS lectures for just £8 (pay on the day) or become a member – annual membership is £50 or £95 per couple.
