Unfurl by Thrive Dance

Now is the time. We can’t go back but we
can give the Earth time to breathe.

Unfurled is a contemporary dance
performance that explores the environment on both global and intimate scales.
It confronts the current climate crisis (inspired by plant bioacoustics and
mycelium networks) taking a hopeful, community-based approach to finding a
solution. It also looks within our own bodies highlighting our cellular and
structural relationship to nature. The dancers travel through 1 tonne of soil
depicting the destruction of the Earth while also highlighting its power for
regrowth. The performance is slightly eerie, yet also transmits a sense of
peace and quiet, imagining that nature will reestablish control over the Earth.
The bold, sensual choreography of Artistic Director Sarah Poekert combined with
the distinctive original scores by Sebastian Lobbers promise a unique and
intriguing experience.

Thrive Dance creates immersive contemporary
dance that stimulates the senses and encourages curiosity. Thrive explores
socially relevant topics with the hope of bringing people together to stimulate
conversations and change.

Audience members are invited to enjoy the
performance with their bare feet in the soil (it is not obligatory).

The show is suitable for all ages, children
must be able to sit still during the performance.
