Dear [Councillor’s Name],

I trust this letter finds you well. My purpose in writing to you today is to bring to your attention the critical situation facing our beloved Ludlow Assembly Rooms, a cornerstone of our community’s cultural and public life.

It has come to my attention that the recent decisions to withdraw grant funding has left the Assembly Rooms facing a challenging future. As a respected member of our local council, I believe your influence could be pivotal in reconsidering this decision, recognizing the profound impact it will have on our community.

The Assembly Rooms serves as more than just a venue; it is a vital hub for cultural enrichment, a place where our community gathers to experience and celebrate the arts and connect with one another. The decision to withdraw grant funding not only jeopardises the Assembly Rooms’ ability to continue its vibrant cultural program but also its ability to secure funding from other sources (some of which stipulate local government grant support to be in place before they will consider a grant application).

Arts and cultural venues like the Assembly Rooms play a crucial role in preventing our town from becoming a cultural desert and are part of what makes Ludlow attractive for residents and visitors alike. They contribute to the vibrancy of our community, attract visitors, and stimulate economic activity. By supporting the Assembly Rooms, we not only nurture our cultural identity but also bolster the local economy.

Moreover, the Visitor Information Centre (VIC), housed within the Assembly Rooms, is a valuable asset that provides essential services to both residents and visitors. The VIC is not just a source of tourist information; it is a cornerstone of our local economy. In many other towns, similar facilities are solely funded by the local council, recognizing their pivotal role in supporting tourism and visitor engagement.

As you are aware the Assembly Rooms also serve practical needs for the local community, with spaces which are hired out to regular groups. However its hard to underestimate the value of the warm and vibrant Bill’s Kitchen cafe and the WCs which are heavily utilised by market stallholders and visitors alike. This further underscores its integral role in our community’s daily life.

I understand the challenges our local council faces in allocating resources, but I urge you to consider the broader impact of this decision on our community’s well-being and identity. Your support in reconsidering the grant funding for the Assembly Rooms would not only provide a more stable future for this cherished institution but would also be a testament to your commitment to our community’s cultural richness and economic vitality.

I appreciate your time and consideration on this matter and am available to discuss further if needed.

Yours sincerely,
