The Art of Observation

Develop the essential skills and understanding for being able to draw.

This stimulating and exciting drawing course will take place over 6 weeks and is an ideal way to explore a wide variety of artistic drawing methods, materials and techniques. Under the expert tuition of Anita Bigsby, students will be encouraged to learn, improve and perfect observational drawing skills, try out more expressive and varied styles and learn how to approach still life and the human figure using a variety of materials and methods.
This is a great taster course and an excellent opportunity to develop new skills and explore materials in a supportive, relaxed, and productive environment.
Suitable for beginners, improvers and practising artists.
  • 6 weeks drawing course on Tuesdays 11th, 18th, 25th June, 2nd, 9th and 16th July 2024
  • 2 hours per session from 1.30pm – 3.30pm in Oscars on Level 2 of the Assembly Rooms
  • Maximum 20 per class to ensure time for individual attention
  • Students to bring along an A2 sketchbook
  • Still life, life drawing, composition
  • Skills and techniques; observation, proportion, perspective, foreshortening, etc – Media and materials; pencil, graphite, pastel, charcoal, etc
  • Styles; encouragement to develop own style, reference to artists and history of art
